چکیده

For 5G it will be important to leverage the available millimeter wave spectrum. Communication at high carrier frequencies requires antenna arrays at both the base and mobile station. A 1-bit analog to digital converter can effectively reduce the complexity and power consumption of the analog receiver frontend. This is especially interesting in the context of large antenna arrays with a sizable signal bandwidth. The RF receiver frontend power consumption of analog beamforming, full resolution ADC digital beamforming, and 1-bit quantized digital beamforming are compared. This power model consists of components designed for the 60 GHz band. With this power model systems with equal power consumption, and therefore different numbers of antennas, are compared in terms of channel capacity. In the low SNR regime the performance of the system with 1-bit quantization outperforms the ones with full resolution ADC digital beamforming and analog beamforming.

A Clustered Statistical MIMO Millimeter Wave Channel Model

The use of mmWave frequencies is one of the key strategies to achieve the fascinating 1000x increase in the capacity of future 5G wireless systems. While for traditional sub-6 GHz cellular frequencies several well-developed statistical channel models are available for system simulation, similar tools are not available for mmWave frequencies, thus preventing a fair comparison of independently de...

Integrated Millimeter Wave and Sub-6 GHz Wireless Networks: A Roadmap for Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications

Emerging wireless services such as augmented reality require next-generation wireless networks to support ultrareliable and low-latency communication (URLLC), while also guaranteeing high data rates. Existing wireless networks that solely rely on the scarce sub-6 GHz, microwave (μW) frequency bands will be unable to meet the low-latency, high capacity requirements of future wireless services du...

Millimeter-Wave Communication with Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access for 5G

To further improve the system capacity for 5G, we explore the integration of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) in mmWave communications (mmWave-NOMA) for future 5G systems. Compared with the conventional NOMA, the distinguishing feature of mmWave-NOMA is that, it is usually characterized by transmit/receive beamforming with large antenna arrays. In this paper, we focus on the design challen...

An Efficient Uplink Multi-Connectivity Scheme for 5G mmWave Control Plane Applications

The millimeter wave (mmWave) frequencies offer the potential of orders of magnitude increases in capacity for next-generation cellular systems. However, links in mmWave networks are susceptible to blockage and may suffer from rapid variations in quality. Connectivity to multiple cells – in the mmWave and in the traditional frequencies – is considered essential for robust connectivity. One of th...
